Title: Bridging Natural and Artificial Intelligence with Neural Network Models
Abstract: Biological brains are capable of feats of learning and adaptive computation unrivaled by artificial systems. These intelligent behaviors are guided by interactions between many systems, such as, different sensory systems, memory systems, and motor systems. If we want to gain a deeper understanding of complex behaviors, and of natural intelligence more generally, we need to build models that combine the functional capabilities of these individual systems. Building these multi-system models and leveraging them to both understand the brain and augment artificial intelligence are central themes of my future research. In this talk, I will highlight some of my work towards this goal, through the study of behavior, neural activity, and neural network modeling.
Bio: Christopher Cueva is a research scientist at MIT working to understand natural and artificial intelligence by analyzing neural activity and behavior, and building and evaluating models of the brain. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Center for Theoretical Neuroscience at Columbia University, and bachelor’s degrees in physics and mathematics from Stanford University.
